Hayward Tyler Hot Air Engine

It isn’t known when the engine was installed here at High Beeches but it was in use before 1910. The engine has recently been restored to working order by SEAMS, the Sussex Engine and Associated Machinery Society, and can be seen running on certain dates throughout the year. It was fuelled by logs and could be run by unskilled estate workers and it is probable that it was used to pump water from the ponds to the house. Quite possibly it is the only engine of its type still situated in its orginal position.
